A parent's nightmare scenario

If you’re a parent, imagine fleeing from your home along with your son or daughter because if you stay, your child will not be safe. Imagine seeking asylum from a foreign country in order to keep them safe.

Now imagine having your son or daughter taken from you. Imagine hearing your child screaming for you in the next room, but you’re unable to reach them. Imagine not being able to say goodbye before they are shipped away.

Imagine not knowing where they are, how they’re being cared for, or if they’re safe.

As a father of young twins, I can’t imagine it.

Yet the nightmare scenario above is the policy Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Donald Trump have instituted in your name – a policy that has now been denounced by the United Nations, the American Academy of Pediatricians, and the Association of Child Psychologists.

Please sign my petition to tell Jeff Sessions and Donald Trump, “Not in our names! End this policy and reunite families!”

Frankly, I don’t know how U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions sleeps at night.

Last Thursday, I learned that from Jorge Baron at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project that this cruel policy was reaching Washington state. We learned that the federal government was holding dozens of asylum-seeking women at a federal SeaTac prison, and that many of them had their children forcibly separated from them. We knew that at least one of these women had no idea of the location of her 11-year-old daughter.

Governor Jay Inslee and I immediately wrote a letter to regional federal immigration officials requesting immediate answers about these women and their children.

How many women are detained? Where are their children? Are they safe? Have these women been informed of their rights?

How many women are detained? Where are their children? Are they safe? Have these women been informed of their rights?

I won’t stop until I get answers. I will do everything in my power to end this policy and reunite these women with their children.

Sign the petition. Demand the Trump administration end the policy of breaking up families now!
